Emel Person was elected as the president of Girne Working Women’s Cooperative

The first general assembly of the Girne Working Women’s Cooperative (Working Women’s Coop), which was established for the purpose of “evaluating women’s labor”, was held, and Emel Kisi was elected as the chairman.

In the statement made by Girne Working Women’s Cooperative, the General Assembly held on Monday under the chairmanship of Koop Companies Registrar Chief Inspector Gift Soyer and inspector Hacer Sığınç, in addition to the founding members, Gi-Ka Koop President İçim Kavuklu and Gi-Ka Koop Executive Board members and their contributions to the establishment processes guests attended.

After the approval of the articles of association of the cooperative, the board of directors was elected, which will serve for three years. Cooperative President Emel Kisi, Vice President Özay Kalyoncu, Secretary Bahar Çağan and active members İlhamiye Şenhuy and Kerime Pere.

Stating that their doors are open to producer women within the borders of Girne District and they can become a member of the Cooperative, President Emel Kisi said, “their main goals are; To contribute to the economic and social development of women in cooperation with local governments in the region, non-governmental organizations, all cooperatives and women’s organizations in the country.

He also stated that «the country needs an economic and social development strategy that future generations can adopt and they will work for it». He also noted that the Cooperative will be with its members in the processes up to the development of product quality standards and branding, and that they aim to play an important role in production and marketing activities.

Stating that they have taken action to raise awareness of gender equality and environmental awareness, Person said that they aim to contribute to creating a society with a high level of prosperity in Girne in particular and in the country in general.
