«Civil Society to Participate in Decision-Making in Lefke Municipality Project Begins Implementation»
Lefke Non-Governmental Organizations Platform Coordinator, Teoman Oktay, has announced that the work on the active participation of civil society in the decision-making mechanisms of the Municipality of Lefke has entered the implementation phase in cooperation with the Civil Society Initiative Association. This announcement comes as part of the «Active Participation» campaign which was launched by the Association in December 2022, in coordination with the local government body elections.
Within this implementation phase, the Lefke Organizations Platform plans to evaluate the municipality’s current participation practices and methods in order to identify any deficiencies in the process. This will be followed by awareness and training activities, which will aim to increase participation among all stakeholders, including the municipality itself. The ultimate goal is to strengthen mutual capacity building and ensure successful implementation of the participation standards document signed by Lefke Mayor Aziz Kaya and all other mayoral candidates during the election period.
It is essential to ensure that civil society is actively involved in decision-making mechanisms at the local level. Therefore, this initiative is vital for Lefke’s future development and progress. The collaboration between civil society and the Municipality of Lefke is an excellent example of how partners can work together to improve the quality of life and create more inclusive and democratic communities.
