China cuts duration of no-fly zone declaration in northern Taiwan

China has once again heightened tensions with Taiwan by announcing a three-day flight ban in the north of the island. However, the ban will now be limited to a 27-minute period on April 16, according to a new air and maritime safety warning. The area affected sits around 85 nautical miles northeast of Taiwan and is viewed as contentious due to an ongoing sovereignty dispute between Taiwan and China. The transport authority in Taiwan has objected to the ban, claiming it will cause disruption to civil air traffic. This latest development is expected to affect 33 flights to and from Taiwan, with planes being diverted to Japan. Nearly 160 international routes per day are expected to be impacted by this move.
